Use Apple Remote Desktop to view the server's screen as detailed in article ...



Open Server (blue planet icon) in the dock.

You will be offered a list of servers to connect to ("This Mac - [server name]", Other Mac, and additional servers on the LAN)

Click "This Mac - [server name]" and press "Continue"

In the left hand sidebar, click "Users"

At the bottom of the window, under the list of users, click the +.

Fill out the form to create a new user:

  • Full Name - the name they are known by
  • Account Name - this is the all lowercase username they use to login. Usually it matches the username they would use to login to your SIS.
  • Email Address - if you provide students with school emails this can be beneficial in automating the setup of their accounts.
  • Password/Verify - Enter the initial password you want the student to use to login.
  • Home Folder - Choose the home folder that matches that students' graduation year.
  • Keywords - "Student", [Graduation year]


Click Create

Find the user in the list, and double click on it.

Below the Groups list, click the +.

Start typing the graduating year of the student, and it should give you a list of groups that match it.

Click the group name that is correct.
