HOW TO ACTIVATE AN EXISTING APPLE ID WITHOUT A CREDIT CARD
There is already a workflow for creating an Apple ID without a credit card, but what if you have already created one and are now being asked to update your payment options in a way that requires a credit card? Here’s the workaround.
1) Open iTunes and sign in to existing account.
2) Any inactive account will receive this prompt:
3) Click ‘Continue’ at the Welcome page.
4) Click the checkbox accepting the Terms & Conditions and click ‘Agree’.
5) There is no option for ‘NONE’ so pick ‘PayPal’. Then click on the words ‘To redeem a code, click here’.
6) It will prompt you to sign in again with the same AppleID.
7) You can then repeat the same steps as before to get back to the ‘Payment Information’ page.
8) The option for ‘NONE’ is now available on the ‘Payment Information’ page. Select it and be sure to also choose a Title (Mr., Ms., Dr.) and a phone # is required. I suggest using the school’s phone #.
9) The owner of the AppleID will be sent a confirmation email. This will need to be confirmed to complete the process.
