When your Mac is connected to a network, it will be temporarily assigned

an IP address so the network can communicate with your device and allow

you to access the internet.

Your computer may be connected wirelessly(Wi-Fi), with an ethernet cable (wired) or both.

Each connection will have a separate IP address.

In either case, you will start in the upper left corner of your screen.

Click on the  symbol and then select System Preferences.

Next, locate and click the Network icon.

The left hand pane of the Network Preferences window will list the types of connections set up on

your computer.

A green dot indicates an active connection, while a red or yellow dot will indicate a connection

not currently being used.

The first connection on the list is one currently in use.

To find the IP of your wireless connection, choose Wi-Fi in the left pane.

To find the IP of your wired connection, choose Ethernet in the left pane.

You will be able to read the IP address on the right side, as shown above.
